What is a Skills Assessment for Australia

Skill assessment tests the qualification and experience of the individual and verifies whether the individual is compatible with the Australian standard for the specific occupation or job. It is the most critical step for lodging skilled migration visas. A skill assessment can include tests, examination, interview, or simulation to assess an individual's potential and competency.

Skills assessment is done by relevant assessing authorities who are responsible for verifying whether an individual's qualifications and experience are adequate to satisfy requirements for a particular job in Australia. When applying for skills assessment your qualifications and work experience are compared to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) to determine whether your skills match the requirements of the Australian job market.

Obtaining a positive skills assessment is mandatory for several visa subclasses and its streams. You may need to complete a skills assessment if you are applying for the following visas:

General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas
