Some of its benefits are dissected below:

What are the streams of a 482 visa?

Skills in Demand (SID) subclass 482 visa is an employer-sponsored visa for qualified skilled workers from overseas. There are three different streams to the SID visa, each aimed toward workforce needs:

482 Visa - Core Skills Stream

Most of the skilled overseas individuals will come through the Core Skills Stream. It is the largest pathway for temporary skilled migrants. To be eligible for this stream, the occupation must be listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). There are over 426 occupations listed on CSOL.

Key Information:

  • Individuals with occupations must be listed on the new Core Skills Occupation List.
  • Individuals must have a minimum annual salary of AUD 79,423.
  • Can stay up to 4 years (Hong Kong passport holders can stay up to 5 years).
  • Processing time will take around 3-6 months, depending on the number of applicants.

482 Visa - Specialist Skills Stream

This stream is for those individuals who are highly skilled in their professions. This visa enables employers to sponsor overseas skilled workers when they can’t find skilled Australian workers, addressing the labour shortages. The Specialist Skills stream will no longer rely on the skilled occupation list.

Key Information:

  • Must be nominated by an approved employer.
  • Must have earned at least AUD 146,576 per year.
  • Stay up to 4 years (Hong Kong passport holders can stay up to 5 years).
  • Pathway to permanent residency (PR)
  • Fast processing time (will be completed within 7 days)
  • Available for any occupation except trade workers, drivers, and laborers.

This visa is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement. It lets you live and work in Australia temporarily. Labour agreements are developed between the Australian Government (represented by the Department) and employers.
